Nigeria-Canada Association Newcomers Integration & Empowerment Initiative (NIEI)

The Newcomers Integration & Empowerment Initiative (NIEI) is committed to enhancing the settlement and empowerment of Nigerian and other Black immigrant communities in British Columbia. Our main goals for 2025–2026 focus on expanding support systems, fostering resilience, and creating sustainable opportunities for newcomers. One of our key objectives is Newcomer Settlement Enhancement, aiming to increase the number of new immigrants receiving settlement services by 75% by 2027. Through comprehensive support—including language training, employment assistance, and housing guidance—we will facilitate a smoother transition for newcomers into Canadian society. Recognizing the mental health challenges among young immigrants, we will launch and sustain a youth mental health initiative by mid-2025, with a target of reaching at least 250 young people annually. This program will focus on mental health awareness, peer support, and access to culturally competent counseling.

To strengthen advocacy and representation, we will establish a dedicated advocacy team by 2025, ensuring ongoing participation in policy discussions that address migrant needs. Our goal is to achieve at least five policy influences annually by 2027, amplifying the voices of the Nigerian and broader immigrant communities. Additionally, we aim to develop strategic partnerships, forming at least ten new collaborations with local organizations and businesses by 2027. These partnerships will enhance cultural exchange initiatives and community support programs through joint activities and shared resources.

Lastly, we will implement an Intergenerational Training and Mentorship Program by late 2025, expanding participation to 150 individuals annually by 2027. This initiative will foster knowledge-sharing, professional development, and the preservation of cultural values across generations. Through these efforts, NIEI seeks to build a thriving, inclusive, and empowered migrant community, ensuring long-term success and meaningful contributions to Canadian society.
